My project was the brain activity with children. The participants in my project were two young girls named Nalyssa and Karley which are my daughter and her friend. I gave them several facts about the human brain and showed them a labeled picture of the different parts of the brain. The two girls used play dough to model the brain with different sections and colors of play dough. They worked together to finish the model and then I asked them what they learned from this activity. They seemed to enjoy the activity and we had to do several recordings of our video because of their giggling.
Watch the video to see the girls comments about this activity.

Nalyssa, my daughter wanted to join Karley in this brain activity and was very interested in learning more about the human brain.

I enjoyed working with these girls researching interesting facts about the human brain and watching them use their hands as they learned. They found the fact that the average adult human brain weighing approximately three pounds very interesting. They also were amazed that the right side of the brain controlled left side of body and vice versa.

This is a picture of Karley who is 9 years of age working on the brain model after studying photos online of the human brain. She was very interested in learning the facts about the human brain that we read online on a learning website for children.  She was surprised that the brain was divided in lobes and that each section had specific functions. She also was amazed that billions of neurons were responsible for sending and receiving messages to the brain.

I learned about the creativity of a child's brain and how much they enjoy learning when it involves hands on activities. They enjoyed shaping and molding the clay to form the different lobes of the brain. They acted as if they were having fun learning the facts about the brain using online images and play dough. They were excited when I told them I was going to video their response to the activity and seemed to be more interested in learning more of the brain facts .
