The field of psychology
that interests me is Cognitive Psychology. This field is very significant and there
are several different types of sub fields within this branch. Memory, perception
and learning are some of the types of mental processes that cognitive
psychologist study. Cognitive psychologist wants to understand the human thought
process. They also study how humans obtain, process, store information, dreams,
problem solving and judgement. Memory is studied because it is involved in an
individual learning, speaking and communication. Perception is studied in this
field so that certain behaviors of an individual can be predicted. The education
required to be a Cognitive Psychologist is completing a bachelor’s degree and continuing
to a master’s program. Doctoral degrees in this field are available as well. A Cognitive
Psychologist usually focus on research, treatment or teaching. There are many
different jobs available for these psychologist in different specialty areas. Places
that employ Cognitive Psychologist are research facilities, government
agencies, Universities, hospitals and mental health clinics. I am interested in
Cognitive therapy because I have personally benefited from this type of
therapy. I began to struggle with anxiety several years ago when I was going through
a very stressful season of my life. My family physician recommended Cognitive
therapy for me. The therapist evaluated me and gave me tools to help me deal with
the stresses in life that I have continued to use today. I believe learning
more about this field and human thought processes would benefit me in caring
for patients as a PA. A PA can evaluate a patients mental and emotional status during
the patients visit and can counsel the patient and if needed recommend further
therapy with a Psychologist.

DeleteGlad to see your work in exploring this area of cognitive psychology. It is definitely an area of study that is fascinating to professionals as it entails working with brain and it's role/function in influencing behaviors. Thanks for sharing about your own struggle with anxiety and how this area of study was helpful for you personally. ReplyDeleteThank you for our comment. It took time to retrain my thoughts from fearful thoughts to more positive thinking. The first step was to identify the root of anxiety and to identify the negative thinking and then to work on changing my thought process. The therapist gave me calming and realistic statements to say to myself when an anxious thought or fear of the unknown came to my mind and this helped a lot. Breathing exercises and exercising regularly also helped me a lot to manage my stress levels.
