My name is Cynthia Shirley but my nickname is Cindy. I am a non traditional student and I have been attending HSU for 1 year. I am married and have two daughters and two fur babies (dogs). My oldest daughter is a senior at Texas Tech University and my youngest daughter is in the 6th grade. I have lived in Abilene since 1999 and I am originally from Sonora, Texas.      I graduated from Howard College in 1999 with a degree in Respiratory Therapy and have worked in the medical field since then. I currently work as a Cardiovascular Sonographer. My major is Biology and my minor is Public Health. My goal is to apply to the Physicians Assistant Program when I complete my undergraduate degree. I love patient care and am very blessed to have the opportunity to serve as a health care professional. My faith and trust is in Jesus and I am very blessed to attend a Christ centered university. I am looking forward to this course and getting to know all of you.
I am adding a few more things about me to this Blog. Two things that are noticeable to people that describes me is that I like to smile and I have freckles. Two things that are unique about me that many do not know is that I enjoy singing and have sang at a couple of weddings and I am very spontaneous especially when it comes to traveling. I would describe myself as motivated and strong willed especially when I have my mind set on a goal or plan.

  1. Wonderful! Great family pic Cindy. Guess what, I was in NYC this December. I and my husband went to spend a few days there. From your pic I can see that you guys had quite a lot of fun! Happy for you. Also, nice to see your goal and the purpose you have in life. I hope this course will help you in cherishing each step toward it.

    1. Thank you for the comment Dr. Pris! I bet NYC was very cold in December, I heard it snowed there after we left.

  5. It is great to have another class with you Cindy! I love New York, it was one of my favorite cities to visit! I went in the summer a few years ago, I am jealous that you got to go see it in the winter time when Christmas decorations start getting put out. I think it is really cool that you want to become a PA, that is a great profession and I wish you the best in that!

  6. Hey Cindy, what are your favorite things to sing? I am not a singer myself but I am surrounded by them all the time, and love hearing people sing. Also traveling is one of my favorite things to do as well. I think it helps people grow in new ways just seeing new places even if you are in the same state, people from city to city are so diverse.

  7. Hi Sierra,
I like to sing Christian music, I used to sing in a church worship team but I have not sang in a while. I agree with your comment about traveling and how being around different people and cultures is interesting.
